A little bit more about our unique approach

How Hygge works

Applying the concept of hygge within our setting has allowed us to focus on creating a home-from-home feeling.

We combine many elements, including items from the outside world, lighting, soft furnishings and essential oils to add to our provision. Having calm and relaxed team members and children enable a positive learning space.

We take time to be in the moment and to appreciate what is around us at that time. Simple pleasures like listening to the birds in our garden, or stopping to count how many spots a lady bird has.

The hygge approach is about focusing on the process and not the end product. This fits in beautifully with our in the moment planning (ITMP). These intertwine to bring a child focus to all we do and to follow each child’s own learning path.

We incorporate what is happening in the outside world into our play. In the summer we might have ice play with herbs and flowers in so that young children can enjoy the cool whilst exploring with all their senses. In Autumn we explore pumkins and have fires to toast marshmallows.
